An oil painting measuring 36”x48” and completed in 2021. Based on a dream in a time of self doubt, uncertainty, and feeling lost. In the dream, I felt as if I was in a never ending rut of a lifestyle, kind of like the movie “Groundhog’s Day” with Bill Murray. I was doing the same thing over and over when out nowhere, this door or portal appears and in danced a strong woman and strong man in traditional regalia with a group of ancestral support behind them. They were fluid in their movements, sure of themselves, but provided a gentle nudge of guidance that I was where I was supposed to be. A sign of strong medicine, as the male dancer represents a soldier dog from the tribes out west, who were known as protectors of their people, and to see him, meant I was going to be ok. The female dances in her jingle dress adorned with elk teeth, a belt with a tail, and a turkey feather fan. Jingle dress dancing has been used as a form of strong medicine for when family members are in need of prayers and help. They dance in front of a bronze spiral portal where the ancestors of protection and guidance wait and support them. You can also see my sigils on the spiral, that I’ve specifically created for this painting that connects me to my ancestors, healing, guidance, and protection.
